The Lightful Story
Hello and thanks for tuning in. When a few of us got together to set up Lightful, we really wanted to help strengthen relationships between people who want a better world and the great causes making it happen. It’s thrilling to see it start to come together, and I’m so pleased to welcome you to our new website, new brand and visual identity, and the resources / blog part of our site.
We passionately believe in technology as a force for good. Too often, we have seen our sector being served by second-rate tech, rather than with the latest ideas that the sector and the people working within it deserve.
There is a lot of talk about the role of social media today, especially given how noisy it can be. We agree; yet we also believe that – like it or not! – millions if not billions of people are connecting on social (typically in the palm of their hands), and this presents an amazing opportunity for us.
We know that great causes have amazing stories to tell but can struggle to rise above that noise and share it with people who are interested. We want to see the stories from great charities, social enterprises and beyond-profits amplified and eventually dominating the feeds and streams of people who engage on social. We believe technology can help strengthen relationships, which is why we’ve built our platform specifically for the sector.
We know that it might sound like a paradox, but having more and more supporters on social doesn’t mean that your relationships with them need to become less personalised. By using the right tools, you can help understand your supporters better and strengthen relationships with them, and that’s a big part of what we have built into our Lightful platform.
We are so grateful to our ‘beta’ users, many wonderful people working at great charities and social enterprises across the country, and beyond. As our first users, they have been telling us what they like, what they love, what they don’t, and what they want us to put in place so that they can delight their supporters… this ongoing conversation has been fantastic, and we appreciate it so much. As I mentioned, we are currently in our beta phase, but if you would like to be one of our founding partners, please drop me or Jen, our wonderful Community manager, a line. We’d love to hear from you.
So please let us know if you have any questions or comments, and do sign up to our Community so that you can get access to exclusive how-to guides, case studies, and info on how to master the art of social media for your organisation.
We know what a challenging yet incredible moment this is for us to stand together and get our voices heard. We are committed to you, so that no matter how you want to change the world, Lightful helps. Let us know how we can help you, and together we can make greater impact. Boy, do we need it… so let’s go!

Last month, Lightful hosted the ‘Strengthening Ukrainian NGOs’ webinar which brought together over 50 passionate global funders and Ukrainian nonprofit leaders in a powerful conversation about the challenges and resilience of Ukrainian civil society as well as how funders can help.
We are thrilled to announce the launch of Lightful’s recent Building Resilience in Digital Growth and Engagement (BRIDGE) programme - in partnership with the International Confederation of Midwives (ICM) and The Gates Foundation. This new cohort marks a pivotal moment in Lightful’s journey, as it is the first time we are working exclusively with Midwives’ Associations (MAs) from across Africa. This programme, the first of two, aims to work with them to strengthen their digital resilience, enabling over 15 associations from across Africa to amplify their voices online, advocate for midwifery as an essential part of healthcare, and highlight the vital role midwives play in sexual and reproductive health for women and girls.
